Additional Information
Do you accept insurance?
I do not take insurance. As an out-of-network provider, I can provide you with a receipt, called a "superbill" that you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement, but I cannot guarantee your insurance company will reimburse you. In terms of mental health services, health insurance plans and benefits vary considerably. Many insurance companies do not cover couples or relational therapy.
Medical spending or health care savings accounts, in some cases, may be used to pay for services. Consult your financial advisor or tax professional about how you might use your HSA or FSA account for payment.
Paying Out-of-Pocket
There are benefits to paying out-of-pocket for my services. Doing so gives you the freedom to create therapy goals according to your own needs and not according to an insurance company’s requirements. Once you take insurance money, they have a hand in the proceedings and access to your records. By choosing private out-of-pocket payment, you know exactly the costs and the benefits of our work together and your records will remain confidential. Please be aware, however, that receiving care from me could cost you more than if you pursued care with an in-network provider.
Out-of-Network Claims
Out of network describes providers who have not signed a contract with your health insurance plan.
Check with your insurance provider about reimbursement for counseling and mental health services. You will submit out-of-network claims on your own, as I do not submit this type of claim for you. It is the client’s responsibility to confirm with their insurance provider regarding out of network coverage and to understand the details of submitting a claim. I cannot guarantee that your insurance plan will provide reimbursement, so please double check before sessions. As a matter of policy, I do not engage with insurance companies during your treatment.
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
In your consent forms, you will receive instructions on how to calculate the cost of your sessions to create a Good Faith Estimate. This needs to be signed before we can work together. If you would like a personalized outline of your therapy costs tailored to your specific treatment plan and frequency of sessions as a stand-alone document, please feel free to request one. I am more than happy to provide this detailed estimate to ensure you have a clear understanding of your investment in your mental health.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or a picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For more information, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3095.
